The Disrupted

March 2020

The Disrupted, directed and produced by Sarah Colt and Josh Gleason, is an emotionally rich observational drama about three Americans and their urgent efforts to overcome financial circumstances beyond their control. Three workers stand at a crossroads: a Kansas farmer struggling to sustain the family land; a newly laid-off factory worker in Ohio dreaming of reinvention; an Uber driver in Florida called to action by falling wages. By turns, they reinvent themselves, they organize, and they go it alone. All three are ultimately tested by entirely different kinds of disruption: an alarming medical diagnosis; a freak accident; a child in crisis. By interweaving these stories, The Disrupted reveals a collective American experience of economic challenge, family resilience, and the quest for purpose.

In the press

The Disrupted brings the impoverishing effects of globalization on all walks of life into intimate detail….What is different about this film is that it squarely takes aim at the beleaguered middle class – whose lives have increasingly been pushed to the margins since the recession of 2008-2009.

– Modern Times Review

“Arguably the most important film I’ve encountered in 2020 thus far.”
